Hummingbird gifts that start with the right feeder
Most hummingbird gifts on this list are feeders, because that's what a hummingbird watcher uses every day from spring to fall. The rest are camera feeders built for hummingbirds and one chime with a hummingbird design. The table above shows each model with the specs its listing states. The notes under it say who each one fits and when to skip it.
A feeder makes a good present because it keeps giving after the box is gone. It also comes with chores. That's the part people forget when they buy one for a friend. So every note on this page leans on two questions: how many birds does this person see, and how often will they clean it?
I'm the person in our family who gets the hummingbird gifts. I know what happens to the ones that are hard to clean. They go to the back of the shed shelf, behind the bulb bags, and they don't come back out.
How this list was put together
The rule is short. A product made the list if its listing describes it as a hummingbird feeder, a camera feeder made for hummingbirds, or a chime with a hummingbird design. We kept one pick per brand, so no single maker fills the table. The order follows the rule and the data, not a brand.
Every spec in the table and the notes comes from the maker or the Amazon listing as of 2026-10-31. If neither states a capacity or a port count, the cell shows a dash and the note says so. Nobody in this family has filled, cleaned or watched these particular feeders. What we can tell you is what each listing says and what that means for the person opening the box.
Gifts for hummingbird lovers who like glass
Glass feeders are the ones that look like a present. Several on this list are hand-blown, according to their listings, and they catch the afternoon light the way a jelly jar does on a kitchen windowsill. Glass also tends to be easier to judge at a glance. You can see when the nectar turns cloudy.
What separates them is size and the practical parts:
- Capacity: 10 oz on the More Birds listing, 27 oz on the Muse Garden
- Ports: 4 or 6 where the listing gives them
- Ant moat: a small cup above the feeder that holds water so ants can't walk down
- Wide mouth: listed on Audubon, Kingsyard, Muse Garden and Nature's Way
- Top fill: listed on the Nature's Way model
A bigger bottle isn't always the better gift. Nectar has to be changed on a schedule whether the birds finished it or not. A 27 oz feeder in a yard with two hummingbirds means pouring most of it out. A 27 oz feeder in a yard with a dozen is a kindness.
Wrapping a hand-blown feeder is its own project. I use enough tissue paper to pack a lamp for a move. Dell says the box could survive a hurricane. I've decided that's a compliment.
Hummingbird lover gifts for a busy yard
Plastic feeders don't win beauty contests, but they win on ports. The First Nature listing gives 10 feeding ports and the Birds Choice Hummerfest gives 6. The Aspects HummZinger Ultra gives 4 ports with an ant moat built in.
More ports matter because hummingbirds don't share well. Penn State Extension describes them as very aggressive at feeders, and its fix is simple: if several birds fight over one feeder, put up a second feeder away from the first. That makes a second feeder a fair gift for someone who already owns one. It also makes the hummingbird the only bird I know that needs two dining rooms to keep the peace.
Small and window feeders for a porch or apartment
Not everyone has a yard with a pole. Two window feeders mount with suction cups, per their listings. The Heath Outdoor Products feeder holds 6 oz with 3 ports and a bee guard. The Perky-Pet 217 holds 8 oz with 3 ports and a bee guard. Both are small on purpose. For someone in an apartment, a condo or a house with a tiny porch, small is the point.
The Pennington Planter Small is smaller still. Its listing gives a hanging mount and 2.3 oz of nectar, a size that suits a porch corner or a hook in a hanging basket. Small feeders need refills more often, but they also waste less nectar in a quiet yard, which matters when the schedule says to change it whether or not it's finished.
A window feeder also has a practical side. The person sees the birds from the kitchen table, which is where most of us actually sit.
Camera feeders for the person who wants proof
The camera feeders on this list are made for hummingbirds or carry a hummingbird perch, according to their listings. They suit the watcher who wants to know who visited while they were at work. As a librarian, I have a soft spot for that. A photo with a timestamp is a primary source.
They differ in ways that matter after the wrapping paper comes off:
- Bird Buddy: 2K video, 5MP photos, AI bird ID, solar; the listing data marks the subscription as required
- Birdfy: 1080p video, solar plus a 9000mAh battery, 14 oz, AI bird ID, cloud storage, free trial
- FeatherSnap: 1080p video, solar plus battery, a 1-liter reservoir, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, microSD card included, optional free tier
- NETVUE: a seed feeder with a camera and a hummingbird perch, 1080p video, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, night vision
Check two things before you buy one. First, the Wi-Fi. A camera feeder has to reach the router from wherever it hangs, and FeatherSnap's listing names 2.4 GHz. Second, the app. Some features come with a plan, and the listing says which kind. The camera feeders also sit in the higher price tiers in our data for this page, so they're a gift for someone you're sure about.
A chime with a hummingbird on it
The Alpine Corporation chime is the one gift here that the birds won't use. Its listing gives a 51-inch overall length, aluminum tubes, a hummingbird-design windcatcher, a brown finish and a 1-year warranty. It suits someone who already has a feeder and wants a hummingbird on the porch in January too.
A 51-inch chime is long. Pick a spot for the neighbors as well as for the person opening the box. Ours ended up at the end of the dock after a short family discussion. The frogs have not filed a complaint.
Pick a feeder that comes apart
Here's my one opinion on this page. The best feeder gift is the one that's easiest to clean, not the prettiest one. The reason is the schedule. Audubon's feeding FAQ says to empty and clean a hummingbird feeder every day or every other day in hot weather, every three days in mild weather and twice a week when it's cool. The Smithsonian's National Zoo gives a similar schedule.
A feeder that comes apart in a few pieces gets cleaned on that schedule. A feeder with a narrow neck and no wide mouth gets cleaned when somebody feels guilty about it. The listings on this page say "wide mouth" or "easy clean" where the maker claims it, and the notes point it out.
Field note: if the person lives somewhere hot, the cleaning schedule is the gift. The feeder is just how it arrives.
What to tuck in the box
A short card with the nectar recipe is the most useful thing you can add. The Smithsonian's National Zoo and Audubon both give the same ratio: one part refined white sugar to four parts water. Both say to skip red dye. The feeder's red parts do that job, according to Penn State Extension. Never use honey; Penn State notes that fermented honey can cause a fatal fungal disease in hummingbirds.
Extra nectar keeps in the refrigerator. The National Zoo says no more than a week, and to throw it out if you see mold. Write that on the card too. A recipe without a storage rule is a library book without a due date.
For the full routine, our guide on how to clean a hummingbird feeder walks through it step by step.
Who should skip a feeder gift
A hummingbird feeder isn't the right gift for everyone who likes hummingbirds. Skip it if the person travels most of the summer, since a feeder left full in summer heat for a week falls far behind the cleaning schedule Audubon gives. Skip a hanging feeder if their building or HOA doesn't allow anything hung outside. A window feeder or the chime may still work.
Skip a camera feeder for someone who doesn't use apps, has no Wi-Fi reaching the yard, or doesn't want another monthly plan. A plain glass feeder and a nice card will make them happier.
And if the person already owns three feeders and cleans them all, ask before you add a fourth. They might want a second one placed away from the first, as Penn State suggests. They might also want a week off.
Timing a hummingbird gift
A feeder given in December won't see a bird for a while in most of the country. That's fine. Audubon suggests hanging a feeder about a week before hummingbirds usually arrive, and says local Audubon chapters or bird clubs can tell you the usual date. Penn State Extension notes that only the ruby-throated hummingbird is found east of the Mississippi River, so in the East the arrival date is one bird's date.
Audubon also says feeders can stay up as long as hummingbirds are around, and that feeding doesn't keep them from migrating. Where hummingbirds spend the winter, a clean feeder can stay up all year. So a winter gift is a spring plan with a bow on it.
How we picked, in full
- Started from every live Amazon US listing in our data described as a hummingbird feeder, a camera feeder made for hummingbirds, or a chime with a hummingbird design.
- Kept one product per brand.
- Took specs from the maker or the listing only; blanks stay blank.
- Checked the list on 2026-10-31. It refreshes weekly, so a sold-out model drops off on its own.
