How alternatives are pickedSame type of gear from other brands, closest first: same price tier as Michigan Bulb’s own listings at our last check, then the most maker-published specs. No popularity, no paid placement.
What's on Amazon US for Michigan Bulb Co. right now
Here's the plain version. As of our data date, October 31, 2026, there are no Michigan Bulb Co. products listed on Amazon US.
We searched the way a shopper would and the way a cataloger would. Brand searches for "Michigan Bulb," "Michigan Bulb Company" and "Michigan Bulb Co." returned no listings from the brand. Michigan Bulb didn't appear in the brand filter of any of the bulb searches in our data, either. Name searches turned up sports merchandise, car light bulbs and a few old Michigan Bulb paper catalogs from 1989, 1990 and 2018, none of them with a seller offering them.
That's all the listings show. They don't say why. So this page doesn't guess, and it doesn't repeat the closing rumors that come up when you search the name. It tells you what we could confirm and shows you bulbs that are on Amazon US, in the cards above under "Alternatives to Michigan Bulb."
What we could and couldn't confirm about Michigan Bulb
The brand file in our data for Michigan Bulb has no verified facts in it yet. Not the founding year, not the owner, not the current product line, not the guarantee. When we can source a fact, we add it to the brand file and it shows on this page. Until then, the honest answer to most questions about the company is "we couldn't confirm it."
What we can tell you is what people look for when they search the name. The searches are for Michigan Bulb tulips, iris, hostas, roses, shrubs, perennials, sun and shade gardens, vegetables and a planting guide. That tells you what readers want to plant. It doesn't tell you what Michigan Bulb sells today, and we won't pretend it does.
So the rest of this page does what a reference desk does. You came in asking for one book. Here's the shelf where it would sit, and the books on that shelf that you can take home today.
Alternatives to Michigan Bulb, and how they were picked
The alternatives in the cards are flower bulbs from other makers with live Amazon US listings. They were matched by type: bulbs for the garden, the kind people search for under the Michigan Bulb name. The note under the cards gives the full rule.
In our data right now, the alternatives come from these makers:
- Holland Bulb Farms. Tulips, daffodils and Dutch iris, in bags from 10 to 50 bulbs.
- Breck's. A 5-bulb bag of Kiwi Sunset daffodils.
- Van Zyverden. A single Hypersonic amaryllis bulb and a 12-bulb bag of Banja Luka tulips.
- Daylily Nursery. Wildflower-mix tulips in bags of 20 and 35.
Each one has its own brand page: Holland Bulb Farms, Breck's, Van Zyverden and Daylily Nursery. For every bulb seller in our data, see flower bulb companies.
These are bulbs only. If you came looking for hostas, roses, shrubs or vegetable plants, those aren't part of this site's bulb data, and we'd rather say so than stretch the list.
Michigan Bulb tulips: tulip alternatives
Tulips make up most of the alternatives right now. What each listing in our data states:
- Holland Bulb Farms Exotic Emperor. 10 bulbs, 12+ cm, zones 3 to 9, 24 inches tall, full sun.
- Holland Bulb Farms Jan Van Nes Triumph. 14 bulbs, 10/11 cm, zones 3 to 8, 18 inches, early spring bloom.
- Holland Bulb Farms Mixed Triumph. 50 bulbs, 11/12 cm, zones 3 to 8, 20 inches, partial shade.
- Holland Bulb Farms Dazzling Desire. 10 bulbs, 11/12 cm, zones 3 to 8, 16 inches, late spring bloom.
- Holland Bulb Farms Little Beauty and Persian Pearl. 25 bulbs each, 6/7 cm, 6 to 8 inches tall, both listed as perennial.
- Van Zyverden Banja Luka. 12 bulbs, 12 cm, zones 3 to 7, 22 inches, mid-spring bloom, planted 5 inches deep.
- Daylily Nursery Wildflower Mixture. 20 or 35 bulbs, zones 2 to 10, 6 inches tall.
Several of these listings call their tulips deer resistant or perennial. On this site, those words appear only as the listing's own claim. A deer that hasn't read the listing is still a deer.
Daffodils, iris and amaryllis
The non-tulip alternatives in our data:
- Breck's Kiwi Sunset daffodils. 5 bulbs, 12–14 cm, zones 3 to 8, early spring bloom, 16 inches, planted 6 inches deep.
- Holland Bulb Farms Gigantic Star daffodils. 10 bulbs, 12/14 cm, zones 3 to 10, 20 inches, listed as fragrant and deer resistant.
- Holland Bulb Farms Tete A Tete daffodils. 50 bulbs, 8/10 cm, zones 3 to 8, 8 inches tall.
- Holland Bulb Farms Metallic Tall Dutch Iris. 25 bulbs, 7/8 cm, zones 4 to 8, late spring to early summer bloom.
- Van Zyverden Hypersonic amaryllis. 1 bulb, 28/30 cm, zones 9 to 10, 12 inches.
That amaryllis is hardy outdoors only in zones 9 and 10 by its listing. Everywhere else it's a pot-on-the-windowsill bulb. Our guide on how to care for amaryllis covers that.
How to compare bulb listings
When the brand you wanted isn't there, the listing details do the work the name used to do. Here's what I read on every bulb bag before it goes in the cart.
Hardiness zones
The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map gives your zone by ZIP code. Each listing in our data states a zone range. If your zone isn't inside it, the bulb may not come back, or may not bloom at all. Look it up first. It takes less time than reading this paragraph.
Bulb size
Bulb size is listed in centimeters, often as a range such as 12/14 cm. Within one kind of bulb, the bigger number is the bigger bulb. Compare sizes within tulips or within daffodils, not across them; a 6/7 cm species tulip and a 12 cm garden tulip are different plants.
Quantity
Bags in our data run from a single amaryllis to 50 tulips or daffodils. More bulbs in a bag usually means smaller bulbs or a mix, so read both numbers together.
Planting season
Most of these listings say fall planting. A few say indoor forcing, which means the bulbs are sold for chilling and growing in pots indoors as well as in the ground. Read that line twice. It changes the plan.
Claims
"Deer resistant," "perennial" and "fragrant" are the listing's words. Our tables show them only when the listing makes them, and we don't add them.
Plant by your zone, not by the rack
Here's my one opinion on this page: plant bulbs by your area's timing, not by the week a box of bulbs shows up at your door. You can check it. NC State Extension says to plant spring-flowering bulbs once the soil has cooled below 60°F, and that most need a 12- to 16-week chilling period to bloom. Iowa State University Extension says tulips can go in as late as December if the ground isn't frozen, and that unplanted tulip bulbs are likely to be dead by early spring.
NC State also gives the depth rule: three to four times the bulb's width, measured from the base. And it says to choose bulbs free of mold, bruising and soft spots, and to keep them cool until planting.
Dell's take, when the bulb box came in October: "Write the planting date on the box before you throw it out. Next spring you'll want to know which ones were worth it." He keeps a notepad for furnace filters. I keep a feeder log. Between us, nothing in this house goes undated.
Our guides on when to plant tulip bulbs and how to plant tulip bulbs go step by step.
The vole year
I'll tell you why I read the zone and the planting line before the picture on the bag. In November 2021, a long row of tulips went in along the porch beds, with the grandkids handing me bulbs. The voles found them that winter. Spring brought very few flowers and a lot of tidy little holes.
Now the porch beds get daffodils, and the tulips live in pots. That's not a rule for your yard. It's a rule for ours, written down in the feeder log, where all the rules end up.
When the box of bulbs arrives
Bulbs bought online show up in a box, often weeks before planting time. A few checks the day it lands save a spring of wondering.
- Open it the same day. Bulbs don't like a sealed box in a warm room.
- Feel each bulb. NC State Extension says to choose bulbs free of mold, bruising and soft spots. A firm bulb is what you want.
- Keep them cool until planting. NC State says bulbs bought in September or October should be stored in a cool area until it's time.
- Keep the labels with the bulbs. A bag of tulips without its tag is a bag of small brown onions.
- Plan the indoor ones. For bulbs sold for forcing, Iowa State University Extension says to pot them and chill them at 40 to 45°F for 12 to 16 weeks, then move them to a bright spot at 60 to 65°F.
Field note: I keep the bag labels in the back of the feeder log, filed by bed. It's the only card catalog in the house that nobody else has asked to borrow.
Who doesn't need a substitute
If you have an older Michigan Bulb order or catalog and you're happy with what's already growing, you don't need to replace anything. A perennial that comes back doesn't care where it was bought.
If what you wanted was a hosta, a rose or a shrub, this page won't help much. It covers bulbs only, because that's what our data holds.
And if your bulbs are already in the ground for this fall, you're done. Put the trowel away and wait for spring.
Where Michigan Bulb shows up
Questions about Michigan Bulb
Is Michigan Bulb Company still in business?
We couldn't confirm this either way. Our data has no verified facts about the company's current status. What we can say is narrower: as of October 31, 2026, no Michigan Bulb Co. products are listed on Amazon US. A missing Amazon listing doesn't tell you whether a company is open or closed.
Did Michigan Bulb go out of business?
We couldn't confirm that. We don't repeat closing or out-of-business claims unless a source we can cite says so plainly. The listings show only that Michigan Bulb Co. has no products on Amazon US as of October 31, 2026. If you have an older order with the company, the order paperwork is the place to start.
Can I buy Michigan Bulb on Amazon?
Not as of October 31, 2026. Searches on Amazon US for Michigan Bulb, Michigan Bulb Company and Michigan Bulb Co. returned no listings from the brand, only unrelated items and a few old paper catalogs with no seller offering them. The bulbs on this page come from other makers that do have live Amazon US listings.
Is Michigan Bulb legit, and are there Michigan Bulb reviews?
We couldn't confirm anything about the company beyond what's on Amazon US, and there are no Michigan Bulb listings there to read reviews on. We don't summarize reviews from other websites. For the bulbs on this page, the listing shows its own ratings and details.
What is a good Michigan Bulb alternative?
Match the plant, not the name. The alternatives on this page are flower bulbs from Holland Bulb Farms, Breck's, Van Zyverden and Daylily Nursery, chosen by matching type. Check the hardiness zones and planting season on each listing against your USDA zone before you buy. Our flower bulb companies page lists bulb sellers in our data.
Does Michigan Bulb have a guarantee?
We couldn't confirm Michigan Bulb's guarantee terms; our data doesn't include them. For bulbs bought on Amazon US, the return and replacement terms are the seller's and are shown on the listing. Keep the order record and the bag label with the bulb name until the bulbs have flowered.
